While an extremely odd choice for the environs of Sanctuary, there’s actually an unfinished Bard class in the OG Diablo expansion, Hellfire. My final choice is a seemingly impossible one - the Bard. It would add some synergy to Diablo Immortal while also taking no sides in the Eternal Conflict. Like the Amazon we’d have an armored “spear” warrior - polearms are already in the game for Barbarians to wield, so a different name for their personal weapons would need to be chosen - and would also be devoid of Divine powers, instead using blood to fuel their spells. If Skovos’ isolation instead heralds their absence from the events of D4, then my next choice would be the Blood Knight.
An armored spear-and-shield warrior would be distinct from the existing classes in the game and fulfill a similar role that a Crusader would fit in, only without the Divine powers. Playable Amazon in whatever expansion or DLC has us deal with this threat makes sense and is the perfect time to add them. There’s actually some narrative hints regarding the Amazons in-game and in the published Book of Lorath - Skovos appears to be isolating itself from the rest of Sanctuary, and in a fantasy world where both angels and demons can be enemies it seems like this is a bad idea and there will be a point in the future where we find Skovos desperately trying to stop something it was hiding. So even though I expect the Crusader (or Paladin) to be next, what I really want is the return of the Amazon, last seen in Diablo 2 and Heroes of the Storm. We took a look at the various possibilities and while some classes are more likely than others - I’d be shocked if Crusader isn’t added next, unless the development team is pointedly refusing to add a “Holy” class due to the events of the game - there’s a vast difference between what one expects and what one wants. Of course that means I’m mostly focused on what class is next to be added, as expansions (and thus new classes are inevitable). Diablo 4 has been out for six weeks now, and players are soon starting Season 1 of the game.
